Dialogue, Voice & Genre Nuance
The system keeps fixing dialogue or dialect I want to keep. Can I prevent that?
You can define Rules for your project to guide how the editor handles dialogue, dialect, and voice. The Rules page (accessible from the top navigation) lets you write custom instructions that the editor will follow when generating suggestions and feedback.
For example, you can add rules like:
- "Preserve character dialects and speech patterns"
- "Don't alter dialogue unless checking for clarity"
- "Respect stylistic voice choices"
You can also:
- Use feedback types that avoid voice-heavy changes
- Reject suggestions that alter intentional speech patterns
- Tell Chat: "Preserve this character's dialect; only check clarity."
The editor automatically checks your Rules before generating any suggestions, so your preferences are consistently applied.
Does Writers Room understand my genre conventions?
Yes, Writers Room automatically detects your genre during import using BISAC (Book Industry Standards and Communications) classification, the same system used by publishers and bookstores. This means:
- Expected conventions aren't flagged as problems - Genre-appropriate techniques (like instalove in romance or infodumps in fantasy worldbuilding) are recognized
- Feedback is calibrated - Pacing expectations, tone guidelines, and credibility notes are genre-specific
- Sensitivity guidance applies - Genre-appropriate sensitivity considerations are included
We're also exploring advanced features like:
- Relationship templates for LitRPG, sci-fi species, romance arcs
- Genre-aware dialogue and pacing analysis
- Cross-book consistency tools
